Chapter 168: Quantum Erasure
Chapter 168: Quantum Erasure
“Attack on the count of 10,” Zyrus gave the final order via the communication device. In the next second all of his mana was roused up.
[Avatar]
With a mighty roar the abyssal dragon rose above the plains of Ilios. Each movement of his stirred the corrupted mana. At the same time, scenes of one-sided slaughter were reflected in his yellow eyes.
Ghouls pierced the sandworms with their nails and tore apart the scorpions with their green skulls. They were the perfect balance of physical strength and powerful corrosive attacks.
*Guooooo*
*Guoo-*
Hundreds of monsters were dying every passing second. And upon their death, they poisoned thousands of others. The sandworms and scorpions were a ticking time bomb as they were fed with abyssal mana and Zyrus’s poison for the past three years.
This assault was the catalyst that pushed them over the edge.
*Splattter*
*Kiiiek-*
*Hisssss*
They howled and hissed at the black dragon who was like a harbinger of disaster. But the dragon was not interested in their dying screams.
He broke the fragile boundaries of the dungeon with a flaming altar in his claws.
*Crrrraccck*
The invisible boundaries broke apart like a glass mirror. And before the deserts collapsed due to instability of space, the broken shards were once again pieced through with a pitch-black mana. Or to be exact, they were consumed by it.
The desert, the sky, monsters, ghouls, and even the armadillo-like creature that Zirnitra was fighting...everything was tainted with the abyssal mana.
“DAMN YOU VERMIN!”
‘Ugh- here they are,’
Zyrus stopped the bleeding from his orifices and faced the giant that was running towards the plains of Ilios. Just a bellow from him was enough to injure him in his avatar form. If his prediction was correct then they should be the natives from the other side of the dungeon.
<5 minutes; this thing’s armor is commendable> Zirnitra was the first to answer, followed by Elsid.
Ten minutes were neither too long nor too short in a fight like this.
‘I can finish him off with spatial stab and void quandary, but it won’t help with creating the gate.’
Zyrus canceled his Avatar and began devouring the mana that was leaking from the deserts. This was his goal from the beginning. A colossal amount of energy poured into his body which looked ant sized compared to the loincloth wearing giant.
Before the giant could finish smashing down with its club, Zyrus’s words were heard throughout the dungeon.
[Curse of Oblivion: Quantum Erasure]
The mana that was enough to sustain the entire dungeon now vanished without a trace. At the same instance, the flow of time seemed to slow down in Zyrus’s eyes.
He had theorized an entire physical cultivation system based on the Void refinement. The curse of oblivion was the result of his completion of 'World Essence' realm. His intelligence and heavenly eyes worked in tandem and improved his curse to a whole new level.
In the Void Refinement, the first realm he named was called World Resonance. As the name suggested, in this stage one had to resonate with the world’s energy. It could be anything – mana, spiritual qi, and even talents like devour. What mattered here was the ability to absorb energy from the environment, and by extension, the world.

The second realm was World Essence. It was a process of storing the world’s energy in their body and forming the ‘Essence’. Once again, this essence could be anything. Mana stored in one’s heart, Spiritual qi stored in the dantian, or Cosmic energy stored by his talent.
He had reached this stage long ago. But what it did was just that – storing the energy. Releasing it was another matter altogether. There were many ways to achieve that, like simply bursting it out via an attack or channeling it via a skill. He had learned from the manual that most optimal use of this essence was done via the power of laws.
The first two stages were similar for all physical cultivation methods. In the original ‘Void Body Refinement Technique,’ the martial artists used their stored essence in tandem with the void laws to expand their acupoints. Those who used the law of wind could make themselves lighter and more aerodynamic, those who practiced the law of fire can temper their flesh and bones with flames…there were various ways of using it.
“How are you unaffected?” the giant’s voice rumbled across the collapsing dungeon. The club in his hand did nothing but cause a miniature sandstorm.
“You’re just weak.”
*Baaaam*
What replied Zyrus was a club on his head. It was too fast for him to see, much less dodge. But just like before, he was unaffected by the giant’s attack.
[Arcane lance]
[Vector Fall]
Dozens of flickering blue spears pierced the giant’s calves. At the same time, Twilight Crusher fell like a meteor and drew golden blood from the giant’s torso.
*Smaash*
The giant didn’t even notice the attack and smashed at Zyrus again and again.
‘Fortunately, he can’t harm me either…. not as long as the plains of Ilios exist.’
Zyrus grinned as he endured another of the giant’s blows without moving an inch. He wasn’t following the Void Body Refinement Technique. He didn’t use the world essence, or to be specific, the cosmic energy from his talent to expand his acupoints.
There were 99 points from which the cosmic energy entered his body. Zyrus referenced the technique written on the manual and used his void laws on those 99 points on the surface of his body.
“Argh– Take this you vermin!” the giant growled and used an unknown energy to surround his club. The wooden club adorned with metallic spikes was now glowing with a silver halo.
*Crrrash*
“Hahaha…didn’t I tell you? You’re just weak,”
The entire desert seemed to cave in by a few feet, yet Zyrus remained unaffected. ‘Curse of Oblivion: Quantum Erasure’ used the principle of quantum field theory on the surface of Zyrus’s body. According to that theory, the universe is made up of various fields.
The Electromagnetic field, Nuclear orbits, Higgs field…all of them were examples of that. The lowest energy state of these fields was the quantum vacuum. But even that ‘field’ wasn’t completely empty.
The quantum vacuum is also filled with fluctuations made by virtual particles. They pop in and out of existence without any predetermined order, just like the Heisenberg’s principle.
Zyrus used this as a base to create his fourth curse. He used the cosmic energy stored within him along with abyssal mana to create 99 quantum vacuums. These fields were manifested by erasing his mana, and in turn, they would erase anything that came in contact with them.
To be specific, these fields created virtual particles to ‘counter’ the fields created by the enemy attack. It didn’t matter whether it was a physical attack or a magical one. Quantum erasure had the power to nullify an attack at the smallest level.
*Buuuuuuuuuu*
*RIIIIIIINNNGGGG*
The giant didn't understand all this, but he knew that he didn’t have the strength to kill the intruder. Thus, it called for backup by blowing the horn that was tied at its waist.
“Not on my watch.”
Zyrus frowned and channeled all his energy. All of his void skills were double-edged swords. There was a reason why his authority was named as ‘13 Curses of Void’ after all.
He named this skill the Curse of Oblivion because it could send both himself and his enemy into oblivion. One wrong move and he himself would be turned into a quantum vacuum.
The laws of void were dangerous beyond compare. Using them on your body was akin to suicide.
‘But with great risks come greater rewards.’
The skill he was using was just a surface-level technique, and yet its power was unparalleled in defense. Zyrus was sure that he could create at least 3 more curses with the martial arts method he had created.
“What is that creature?”
“STOP THE COLLAPSE!”
More than a dozen giants wearing golden armor and shiny weapons descended from the skies. The abyssal army and the monster’s fight had longs since came to a conclusion. The once spacious deserts became cramped with an oppressive aura, and the lone Sylvarix was at the center of it all.
‘Just a minute left…looks like I made it.’
Zyrus took a deep breath and observed the dungeon. The mana being supplied to him via the plains of Ilios was running out. On the bright side, the ghouls and his summons had finished their job.
The monsters were dead, the corpses were collected, and the armadillo-like monster was also dealt with. Finally, his eyes fell on the flaming altar.
“May we meet again,” he gave a mocking bow to the giant and poured all of his mana into the altar. What happened next was a scene he would never forget in his life.
With a brilliant golden flash the entire dungeon was cleaved in half. No, to be more accurate, this entire stretch of space had been turned into colossal gold framed doors.
Be it Zyrus, the giants, or the plains of Ilios, they were nothing more than paint on the doors.
‘Indeed, I have a long way to go.’
Zyrus’s eyes looked at the vast world on the other side of the doors. He couldn’t see much due to suppression of world laws, yet that itself was the best indicator.
[Mission Complete]
[Initiating Return]
*RUUUUMMBBLLE*
The colossal doors opened above the vast world while Zyrus was teleported back. Thus, another war began in this sector of the universe.
