Chapter 1675 Poisoned Ray!
Chapter 1675 Poisoned Ray!
After hearing Max's words, Jonathan slowly straightened his posture.
The hesitation and uncertainty from yesterday had completely disappeared from his expression. What replaced it now was determination.
"Since Julie has already been cured," Jonathan said seriously while looking directly at Max, "it is only right that we fulfill our side of the agreement as well."
Then he continued without hesitation.
"Max, we are prepared to join your secret force."
A faint smile appeared across Max's face after hearing that.
At the same time, Jonathan's expression gradually turned colder.
"As for your first condition…" Jonathan said quietly, "come with us."
His eyes narrowed faintly afterward.
"Everything has already been arranged."
The moment those words fell, both Jonathan and Julie turned around and began walking deeper into the pavilion area.
Max calmly followed behind them while silently observing the increasingly secluded surroundings.
The deeper they went, the quieter the atmosphere became.
Soon, Jonathan led Max toward a hidden passage concealed beneath the pavilion itself.
After entering the underground area, the surroundings immediately became dark and cold.
There were no artificial lights illuminating the underground pathways. Instead, old burning torches lined the stone walls on both sides, causing flickering flames to cast long shadows throughout the tunnels.
The entire place carried an ancient and gloomy atmosphere.
It resembled some sort of forgotten underground ruin hidden beneath the Violet Star Palace.
"What exactly is this place?" Max asked curiously while looking around the dim underground tunnels.
Julie answered calmly while continuing forward.
"This is a hidden location beneath the Violet Star Palace," she explained. "A very long time ago, this area was used as a prison."
Her voice became slightly colder afterward.
"Those who committed crimes severe enough to warrant execution were imprisoned here."
Max's eyes flickered slightly.
"Later, after countless years passed, the location was abandoned and gradually forgotten by most people inside the Violet Star Palace."
Max slowly nodded after hearing that explanation.
The deeper they traveled into the underground tunnels, the more the place genuinely resembled an old prison.
Cold stone walls.
Narrow passageways.
Heavy metal doors.
The atmosphere itself carried traces of despair and suffering left behind from the past.
Eventually, after passing through several underground corridors, the three of them arrived before a dark cave-like chamber.
The moment Max stepped closer, he immediately sensed violent fluctuations coming from inside.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
Inside the cave, a young man was frantically punching the stone walls repeatedly.
The entire chamber shook faintly under the force of his attacks.
Then suddenly, after hearing footsteps approaching, the young man abruptly turned around.
The moment his eyes landed on Jonathan, Julie, and Max, his expression twisted violently.
"Jonathan! Julie!" Ray roared furiously.
However, unlike his arrogant appearance during the Smelting Trial, Ray now looked completely miserable.
His voice sounded hoarse and weak.
His hair was disheveled.
The color within his eyes had dimmed noticeably.
Even his skin had turned faintly purple.
At a single glance, anyone could tell something was terribly wrong with his condition.
"I feel weak throughout my entire body!" Ray shouted while staggering slightly. "Even the world around me keeps spinning!"
His furious gaze locked directly onto Jonathan.
"What exactly did you put inside the drink you gave me?!"
The moment those words fell, Max immediately understood the situation.
Ray had been poisoned.
"Did the two of you poison him using one of your poisons, Julie?" Max asked while calmly observing Ray's miserable condition.
At that moment, Ray no longer resembled the arrogant genius from the Smelting Trial at all.
His entire body looked weak and unstable while traces of purple poison continuously spread beneath his skin. Even the spiritual energy fluctuations around him had become chaotic and disordered.
Jonathan nodded slowly after hearing Max's question.
"Yes," he admitted without hiding anything.
Then he let out a helpless breath before continuing.
"We originally did not know how to deal with him."
Jonathan's expression gradually became more serious afterward.
"Ray is slightly stronger than either of us individually. Though we can handle him if two of us can take actions together but that would create too much chaos."
Julie also spoke quietly at that moment.
"And if he escaped," she said calmly, "everything would become troublesome afterward."
After all, Ray was not an ordinary genius.
Not only was he powerful himself, but he also possessed the backing of the Sword God Palace. Once someone like him became alert and cautious, dealing with him secretly would become extremely difficult.
Because of that, Jonathan and Julie could not afford to fail.
Jonathan continued speaking afterward.
"So in the end, we decided to take a risk."
His gaze slowly shifted toward Julie.
"After Julie awakened the Ten Thousand Poison Flame Body last night, her control over poison improved tremendously."
Jonathan's expression still carried traces of disbelief while speaking about it.
"The difference was unbelievable. Before this, even Julie herself struggled to completely control the poison within her body. But after awakening the new Divine Body, she became capable of manipulating poison with astonishing precision."
Julie calmly nodded afterward.
"Because of that," she explained softly, "we decided to test one of my new poisons on Ray."
A faint coldness flashed within her eyes.
"We invited him earlier under the excuse of discussing matters related to the Smelting Trial and the coming banquet."
Jonathan smiled faintly afterward.
"Fortunately, he never suspected us."
"Ray drank the poisoned wine without noticing anything unusual."
Jonathan then looked toward Ray once again.
"And apparently…"
A faint smile slowly appeared on his face.
"It worked far better than we expected."
A faint smile slowly appeared across Max's face after hearing Jonathan and Julie's explanation.
"You two handled this quite well," Max said calmly while looking toward the miserable Ray standing inside the chamber.
Then Max's gaze slowly shifted back toward Jonathan and Julie.
"Now," he continued with a faintly amused smile, "would the two of you mind leaving us alone for a while?"
His eyes briefly moved toward Ray afterward.
"I would like to spend some personal time with him."
Jonathan and Julie immediately understood what Max meant.
Neither of them said anything further.
Instead, they simply exchanged a brief glance before shrugging lightly and turning around to leave the underground chamber together.
However, the moment Ray realized they were truly walking away, panic and fury instantly exploded across his face.
"Jonathan! Julie!" Ray roared loudly.
His voice echoed throughout the underground chamber while his already disheveled appearance became even more frantic.
At that moment, Ray finally understood what was happening.
He had been completely betrayed.
The people he trusted enough to drink with had secretly poisoned him and handed him directly over to Max.
The realization caused his eyes to turn bloodshot instantly.
"I trusted the two of you!" Ray shouted furiously while staggering forward weakly. "And this is how you repay me?!"
The hatred and disbelief within his voice became increasingly intense.
"You actually sold me out to Max!"
Ray's face twisted violently with rage afterward.
"How dare you do this to me?!"
Then, as though suddenly remembering his own background, Ray immediately began roaring threateningly.
"Once the Sword God Palace learns about this, both of you are dead!"
Terrifying hatred filled his eyes completely.
"The Sword God Palace will never forgive this betrayal!"
