Chapter 407 - 406: I Advise You to Rephrase That
They were alone in the office again. Xu Su sat up straight and looked out the window at the darkening sky. "It’s already dark. Are you done with work? I want to go home."
"Alright," Shen Chen nodded, saying very naturally, "Let’s go grab a bite first, then we’ll head back."
Xu Su’s lips parted slightly. She wanted to say something but couldn’t find a reason to object, so she could only nod in the end.
She had just stood up when Shen Chen pointed to the three scripts on the coffee table—the ones she had gone through and set aside. "The fruits of your afternoon’s labor. Aren’t you going to do something about them?"
"..." Xu Su hesitated, then bent down to pick up the scripts from the table and handed them to him. "I think these three are pretty good. Do you want to take a look?"
"No need. If you think they’re good, then they’re good. I’ve never handled this kind of thing before, so I don’t really get it." Despite his words, he took the scripts from her. He didn’t open them, simply asking, "You’ve settled on these three? I’ll get the arrangements started, then."
"Don’t be so decisive," Xu Su cautioned him. "Aren’t you afraid I’ll screw you over?"
Shen Chen looked at her as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "I trust your judgment."
"..." Xu Su was speechless, too lazy to argue with him. "Fine, fine. You invest then."
Shen Chen paused. "You’re not investing? Didn’t you say you wanted to invest in the ones you picked?"
"Business is business," Xu Su said with great solemnity. "I don’t want to take advantage of you."
"No one’s asking you to take advantage of me. What are you thinking?" Shen Chen said with a serious expression. "I’m a ruthless businessman. I never get involved in deals that lose money."
As he spoke, he made a phone call. It was as if he was afraid Xu Su would back out, so he immediately told the legal department to draw up an agreement.
"How about we each take a fifty-percent stake?" Shen Chen asked with a smile, then added, "We’ll just draft an agreement for now. You’ll have to put up the money according to your investment share when the time comes."
Xu Su lowered her head and was quiet for several seconds before humming in agreement.
Shen Chen looked at her, puzzled. "Cheer up. Can you not be such a downer?"
Xu Su didn’t respond to that. She thought of Lina and picked out *The Medical Consort’s Tale* from the three scripts. "Can I choose the female lead for this one?"
She had never been a "backer" before, so she sounded a little hesitant as she said it.
Shen Chen laughed, raising an eyebrow. "You might not get how this works. Let me put it this way: for these three scripts, as long as I don’t object, you can arrange for everyone on the crew, including the director."
Shen Chen asked, "So, who are you planning to cast as the female lead?"
His knowledge of her social circle was no worse than Zhou Mochen’s. He thought for a moment. It could only be one of her few classmates.
If she wanted to let her classmates have a go at the entertainment industry, he wouldn’t object.
But to his surprise, Xu Su said, "Do you remember Lina?"
"Who?" Shen Chen was confused. His memory was usually excellent; he remembered the names of her two best friends clearly, but he had no recollection of this "Lina."
Xu Su could only explain, "The girl I called over for you the night I first arrived in Beijing. Didn’t I ask for her number before we left? You forgot? She even sat with you for a whole night."
"Don’t bring that up." Shen Chen’s lips thinned, his face full of displeasure. "You met her once, and you’re already taking her seriously?"
"Yes, I just have a good feeling about her," Xu Su said. "I want her to play the female lead. Is that okay?"
Shen Chen didn’t want to argue with her over such a trivial matter, so he nodded without hesitation. "Fine."
The moment he finished speaking, Xu Su moved to take out her phone to call Lina, but Shen Chen stopped her.
"You don’t have to contact her yourself. Just send me her number. I have so many people working for me; they get paid to do this stuff."
’What a vicious capitalist.’
Xu Su gave Lina’s number to Shen Chen. He then warned her with a smile, "You should have less private contact with people from that line of work. Don’t trust any of that ’good feeling’ nonsense. Be careful, or she’ll sell you out and you’ll still be feeling sorry for her."
Xu Su’s face was full of disbelief. ’I’m not that stupid.’
Shen Chen said, "Don’t be so quick to dismiss it. Women in those circles will do anything for personal gain. They’d even sell out their own sisters."
"Alright, stop making it sound so terrifying. I’m not planning to be friends with her, and I won’t contact her in the future..." She suddenly thought of the twin sisters from the private room last night.
Her expression changed. Shen Chen noticed it at a glance and couldn’t help but ask, "What’s wrong now?"
"Um..." Xu Su hesitated for a moment before asking, "You guys don’t just... use them and toss them aside, do you? I mean, sleeping with young women without giving them anything in return."
In her memories of the entertainment industry from her past life, those twins didn’t exist. Either they remained nobodies after their debut, or they never debuted at all.
’If it’s the latter...’
Shen Chen’s face darkened at her question. "Xu Su, I suggest you rephrase that."
"..." Xu Su was taken aback and quickly explained, "Weren’t there twin sisters in the private room last night? I ran into the two of them with Zhu Yuxuan and another guy... all four of them coming out of the restroom together..."
She gave Shen Chen a you-know-what-I-mean look and continued, "Later, I asked the younger twin. The sisters are both from a music conservatory. They were willing to... you know... with Zhu Yuxuan and the others because they must want help breaking into the entertainment industry..."
At this point, Xu Su wanted to ask if Zhu Yuxuan would actually put in the effort to promote them, but when she looked up, she saw that Shen Chen’s expression was as black as thunder...
Xu Su quickly cut herself off and eyed him cautiously. "Are you angry?"
"I’m not angry at you." Shen Chen lowered his gaze to look at her. "Why didn’t you tell me when you saw something like that?"
"What..." Halfway through her word, Xu Su realized what he meant. Her expression was baffled. "What would I tell you for?"
Shen Chen was so angry he laughed. "You’re a young woman who stumbled upon a scene like that, and you weren’t scared?"
"Why would I be? It’s not like I can’t guess what you people in this circle are like." Thinking back to the scene last night, Xu Su had a complicated expression. "It was just a bit... intense, that’s for sure."
Shen Chen lowered his head, lost in thought. After a moment, he said with a light chuckle, "I’m sorry. I took you out only to have them defile your eyes."
’He probably made a mental note to get even.’
Xu Su thought he was really making a mountain out of a molehill. It was a little... but it wasn’t so bad that it "defiled her eyes"...
She wanted to say something, but just then, an assistant came in with the drafted agreement, so she had to drop it.
Xu Su read the agreement carefully from beginning to end, then put pen to paper and signed.
"Alrighty," Shen Chen said, his face no longer gloomy as he looked at her signature. He smiled. "I never thought I’d be partnering with you to invest in a project."
Xu Su couldn’t really take it. "Act normal. If you keep this up, I’m not going to dinner with you."
Shen Chen tilted his head to look at her, raising an eyebrow with a grin. "What part of this isn’t normal? There’s a much less normal side to me. Want to see it?"
