Chapter 45 Initial Direction of the Battlefield
Chapter 45 Initial Direction of the Battlefield
Chen Feng glanced at her. The little girl's figure was gradually growing up, and her chest was rising and falling slightly. She was no longer the little girl who used to follow behind him in his memory.
He frowned. "You're all grown up now, it's not convenient for us to share a room. Go and squeeze in with Feng Qinlan, I'll have someone move this bed out later."
"No!"
Without a second thought, Wang Muning blurted out, plopped down on the bed, and pouted, "Two beds, each person can sleep in their own, what's inconvenient about that!"
Chen Feng ignored her petulance, turned and walked out of the room, calling out loudly, "Someone come here!"
"What are your orders, General?" Pang Li rushed in immediately. Although he was short, he stood up straight, looking quite like a soldier.
"Find two people and move that bed out of the inner room," Chen Feng said, pointing towards the living room.
"yes!"
Pang Li responded and turned to call for help.
Just then, Qian Biao and Tian Gang, the platoon leader, walked in one after the other, clearly there to ask for instructions regarding the meeting.
Hearing the footsteps outside, Wang Muning, who was in the inner room, originally wanted to argue back, but upon seeing this, she immediately pursed her lips, quietly retreated back into the room, and didn't say another word.
"General, we've had a lot of brothers coming lately, and the houses in the village aren't enough. We haven't had time to build a new meeting room yet. What do you think, should we hold the meeting here, or should we move to another place?" Qian Biao scratched the back of his head, a little embarrassed about his mistake.
Chen Feng glanced at Wu Dequan and said in a deep voice, "Start here!"
Qian Biao immediately understood and turned to Wu Dequan, speaking respectfully, "Mr. Wu, would you please move aside for a moment?"
"snort!"
Wu Dequan was still angry. He glared at Chen Feng and, not wanting to get involved in the Free Army's affairs, lifted the hem of his long robe and walked out of the stone house without looking back.
Chen Feng casually pulled over a bench and sat down, while Okita Tsuyoshi waved his hand, "Sit down. How many people are in your line now?"
Tian Gang sat upright on another bench, his voice booming: "General, there are 78 people in the row, including myself."
"good!"
Chen Feng nodded approvingly, noticing the bloodshot eyes in his eyes, and added, "Rest when you need to, don't keep pushing yourself. The development of the military relies on long-term combat capability, not on enduring hardship."
"Thank you, General. The Free Army is flourishing, and I dare not slack off." Tian Gang straightened his back even more.
He had barely finished speaking when Kong Yunfei's booming voice rang out from outside the door: "General, you're finally back! I've felt so lost these past few days without seeing you!"
As soon as the voice rang out, Kong Yunfei strode in and exclaimed, "By the way, General, our platoon now has 97 men! Definitely number one in the entire battalion!"
The first half of this statement is nonsense; the main purpose is to claim credit in the latter half.
Chen Feng couldn't help but smile: "Indeed, it's the most in the entire battalion."
"That's right! General, there's nothing I, Kong Yunfei, can't handle." Kong Yunfei proudly raised his chin, plopped down next to Tian Gang, and glared at him defiantly.
At this moment, Wang Liang and Zhang Xiuwu walked in side by side, chatting and laughing as they went, seemingly talking about something interesting.
Kong Yunfei asked curiously, "What are you two talking about, all smiles?"
Chen Feng also looked up and pointed to the bench next to him: "Sit down and talk."
As soon as Wang Liang sat down, he winked and said, "General, Yang, the girl from the clothing workshop, just came to Xiuwu and said she wants to marry him!"
"Whoa!"
As soon as he said that, the room erupted in chaos, filled with laughter.
"Is that so?"
"You're all disfigured, you've really hit the jackpot by marrying Yang!"
"Back in my day, I was a handsome young man known throughout the surrounding area. Why didn't Miss Yang pursue me?"
The girl Yang, whom everyone was talking about, was a girl who had been rescued from the Balangai tribe. She was only sixteen years old this year, with delicate features and a gentle nature, and was very popular in the garment workshop.
Zhang Xiuwu's ears turned bright red instantly. His lips moved, but he didn't know how to refute them. He was so anxious that his forehead turned red.
Seeing his expression, Chen Feng assumed he was also interested, so he smiled and asked, "What are your own thoughts? You two are about the same age. If you're really interested, I'll be your matchmaker."
Zhang Xiuwu quickly waved his hand, his tone urgent, "Brother Chen, don't make fun of me! I have no feelings for her, not because of what she went through before, but because I have already made up my mind that I will never get married until I drive the Spanish out of Luzon."
If they didn't truly not care that Yang girl had been abused by the indigenous people, they wouldn't have brought this up.
Chen Feng understood the situation and wouldn't force anyone. He said in a deep voice, "Since Zhang Xiuwu has no intention of bringing this up again, none of you should mention it. Let's have a meeting first."
Everyone immediately stopped smiling, and the room fell silent instantly.
Chen Feng slowly began, "This time I met with General George Dewey and secured 200 M1892 breech-loading rifles. After the meeting, these rifles were distributed equally among the six platoons, with priority given to veterans."
Upon hearing that there was a breech-loading rifle, everyone's faces lit up with smiles. Kong Yunfei exclaimed, "That crappy M1861 muzzle-loading rifle is slow to load and inaccurate; it should have been replaced a long time ago! The Americans have finally decided to give us something better!"
Chen Feng silenced the cheers with a look, his tone turning serious: "The US military isn't doing this out of kindness. They're giving us weapons so we can do something. Destroy the San Antonio supply depot within four days."
The moment the words left his mouth, the atmosphere in the room instantly became heavy.
"Zhang Xiuwu, go to the blackboard and draw the surrounding terrain, then explain the situation to everyone," Chen Feng instructed.
Zhang Xiuwu immediately got up and walked to the blackboard, picked up a charcoal pencil and quickly sketched: "This warehouse is six kilometers south of our camp, built by the river, surrounded by flat land, with a wide view."
My village is just across the river. Last time I went back, I inquired and found out that the warehouse had been occupied by the Independent Army, who sent a company of soldiers to defend it.
Chen Feng added, "Now it's probably more than just a company. According to my intelligence, the Independent Army is stockpiling large quantities of siege supplies in their warehouses, and their defenses will only become more stringent."
"Whether it's one company or two, I, Old Kong, will lead my brothers to charge in and blow up the warehouse!" Kong Yunfei said, patting his chest, still looking fearless.
"The Independent Army isn't native; their main force has been fighting the Spanish for years. Even if there's only one company, they're not easy for us to deal with," Tian Gang said, becoming much more cautious.
"Old Kong, don't be impulsive."
Tian Gang immediately retorted, "The Independent Army is different from the natives. They've been fighting the Spanish for years and are quite formidable. Even if there's only one company, relying on the warehouse fortifications for defense, we won't stand a chance."
"Old Tian, you're just a coward."
"Old Kong, you're just a brute."
The two were about to start arguing.
