Chapter 140: Loyalty For Sale
Chapter 140: Loyalty For Sale
They say time heals all wounds, but that presumes the source of the grief is finite.
Kairon was about to die.
Heck, he accepted his death.
But Diablo, in his arrogance and dominance, placed his foot on Kairon.
And out of all the places he could choose, he went for the spot where the filth Zane Atlas had bit him.
Kairon was healed a long time ago.
He had even changed his pants and clothes.
But the marks of Zane’s teeth, they won’t vanish by the grace of time.
As Diablo pressed his foot on Kairon’s leg, the Enforcer felt the familiar pain again and with that pain, flashed the face of Zane in front of his eyes.
The face turned the Enforcer from numb to active.
He was on his knees, head down but the next second, he raised his head and looked straight at Diablo.
"I refuse."
Diablo frowned.
Leon left the table.
"Refuse what?" He asked.
Kairon stayed silent.
He might have come back to the present but he had no way to actually come out of the office alive. That was to say if he chose to fight against them.
So, he acted on the principle he learned way back.
"I refuse to become a big mouth bastard who would share the happenings of today."
If you can’t fight them, join them.
Leon and the Emberlord looked at each other.
Diablo turned his gaze at Leon.
Coin nodded at Leon and Leon waved at Diablo.
Diablo said nothing and removed his foot from Kairon.
He went to the door and stood in front of it, guarding it.
Kairon coughed and stood up from the corner.
"Explain." Coin ordered.
Kairon stretched his neck left and right.
"You want me dead because I know what happened here, right?"
"Yes." Leon said.
Kairon nodded.
"Then take my word that I won’t speak of this to anyone. Do the Resonance Binding with me too."
Coin raised his brows.
Leon smiled.
"Are you sure?"
Kairon wiped his face.
"Yes. I am not a saint. I know how the world works. I don’t want to die. I will keep this a secret and if you like, maybe you can do something for me too when you become a Crown. Only if you like. I am only demanding my life right now."
"What do you want?" Leon asked. "Other than life, of course."
Kairon looked into Leon’s brown eyes.
"Make me the knight of your house. The Golden Knight. The highest one. I know you must want to give Diablo that position but each Crown can have ten Golden Knights. Make me one of them."
Leon shook his head.
"Diablo won’t become the Golden Knight, Enforcer. His position is locked as my Sigiled."
Kairon’s eyes widened.
The Emberlord’s brows shot up.
Both of them jerked their heads at Diablo.
Coin saw him in a new light now.
He already knew the man was something else but if he was regarded for being a Sigiled then it only meant the man was more than what he showed right now.
He was capable of much more than that.
Kairon, on the other hand...
"Heh.." He chuckled.
"And I was thinking of fighting with him. Heck, defeating him."
He shook his head at the ridiculousness of his bravery and asked Leon:
"So will you make me a golden knight?"
Leon shrugged.
"Sure. It isn’t a big deal. But you have to stay loyal to me. And prove it right now."
Kairon expected that.
No one would make someone their closest without any form of security.
Leon had tried to kill Kairon so the young man would constantly think that Kairon would take his revenge if he got a chance.
So Leon had to ask for loyalty.
For Kairon, if it meant to rise in rank and status, he would sell his soul. Loyalty was a strand of hair in front of that.
But before proving his loyalty one more question was left.
"How should I prove it?"
Leon nodded and took out his dagger from the Flame ring.
He tossed it to Kairon and the Enforcer caught it.
He stared at it and then looked at Leon.
"What should I do with this?"
Leon’s smile vanished.
"Cut your right hand for me."
Kairon gulped.
He didn’t expect that.
"Can I cut my left hand?" He asked.
Leon shook his head.
"But right is my prominent hand."
"That’s the whole point, Enforcer."
Kairon went silent.
He shouldn’t argue more.
It won’t take less than a second for Diablo to kill him.
He removed his armor and slowly brought the dagger to his right shoulder.
He hadn’t pressed it on his skin yet.
His eyes danced between Coin and Leon and after a second, he gritted his teeth.
"Fuck it."
He pierced the dagger on his shoulder.
"Angh-"
"Don’t shout. Keep it in." Leon ordered.
Kairon shut his mouth.
His face twisted in pain as he swiped the dagger back and forth on his thick shoulder.
Everyone else watched the scene with a blank face as Kairon went through agony.
But he held on as the agony wasn’t as great as the agony he received from Zane Atlas.
With the removal of his hand, his revenge was calling him.
The golden knight was calling him.
He wouldn’t mourn over his hand if he got his hands on Zane Atlas and the golden armor.
So he applied more force, more speed, more pain and in just five seconds...
THUD!
His right hand fell on the floor.
He severed his own right hand from his shoulder.
Blood dripped from the hollow space as with panted breaths, he tossed the dagger back to Leon.
Leon caught it with a smile.
"Splendid. I agree to do the Resonance Binding with you."
Kairon nodded.
He didn’t have it in him to smile.
He wanted to scream but he was denied.
If he screamed, Leon might change his mind and not accept him. If that happened, it would mean Kairon lost his hand for nothing.
So he swallowed his screams and let Leon come towards him.
"Before the binding though..."
Leon stopped walking.
"Diablo," He pointed at Kairon.
"Heal your comrade first."
