Chapter 1579 - 1581: Get In
The next day, Yang Dong was driving the horse carriage to the town for errands, but on the way, he saw Li Chuntao walking ahead.
He was quite puzzled. Is she going to the town?
Is she going there for errands? Why didn’t she get a carriage? And where is that little maid she usually has with her?
While he was still wondering, the carriage came right up to where Li Chuntao was.
Li Chuntao turned her head to see Yang Dong driving the carriage, smiled slightly, and said, "Are you going to the town? Can you give me a ride?"
Yang Dong touched his nose, feeling a bit embarrassed. Today, he was using the kind of carriage for fieldwork, not the one with a cabin from home. Since he was traveling alone, he thought any kind of carriage would do, and didn’t bother to change it, but didn’t expect to run into Li Chuntao. He wasn’t sure if she would mind this open carriage.
"Hop on."
With Yang Dong’s reply, Li Chuntao climbed onto the carriage with a smile.
Why would she mind? She was not like those real young ladies from the city. She was quite used to these horse carts and ox carts.
Besides, she had specifically waited here today just to get on Yang Dong’s carriage.
She had heard from Yang Dong’s second sister-in-law yesterday that Yang Dong would be going to the town today because the family was out of rice and flour, so she came.
But it wasn’t to try and win a chance for herself or to express any love towards Yang Dong.
She merely wanted to find an opportunity to remind Yang Dong, because she felt that Yang Xiaocui was really too bad, and not suitable to be with Yang Dong.
She didn’t have any evidence for now, so could only indirectly remind him. If she directly spoke ill of Yang Xiaocui, it would make her seem like someone who enjoys meddling in others’ affairs, and without evidence, no one would believe her.
She hoped that in the future, when she seizes another chance, with evidence laid out, Yang Dong would believe her.
Once she was on the carriage, Li Chuntao said, "It’s really great to run into you. Otherwise, I’d have had to walk all the way to town."
With Li Chuntao speaking like that, Yang Dong also started talking, "What are you going to do in town? Didn’t you find a carriage?"
Li Chuntao smiled and said, "My family only has horse carriages, no coachman. It’s just me and Alu. Neither of us knows how to drive. If we hired a coachman, we’d have to accommodate him too. It’s inconvenient."
Upon hearing this, Yang Dong was quite surprised. Isn’t she a young lady from a wealthy family? How come there’s no coachman?
But what she said made sense; having a coachman stay with the two young women was indeed inconvenient.
As for Yang Dong, he had no idea that Li Chuntao was the daughter of the Stone Village landlord. Although his family knew, they had never mentioned it in front of Yang Dong, thinking he was aware.
Neither had they gone around gossiping with the villagers about the misinformed rumors concerning the landlord’s daughter. The Yang Family was not a family prone to gossip; they only discussed matters at home and never outside.
That’s why the villagers in Yang Family Village weren’t talking about Li Chuntao being the landlord’s daughter, because nobody linked her to that not-so-well-reputed plump girl.
Yang Dong had heard rumors about her past, but he never connected them with Li Chuntao.
"I ordered some wooden pieces for teaching kids to recognize characters in town. I wanted to go check if they’re done!" Li Chuntao replied to Yang Dong. Actually, she didn’t need to check; if they were finished, they would definitely be delivered.
