Chapter 626: Not Enough Money
Chapter 626: Not Enough Money
Hiss. From what the Grand Princess says, she seems not to realize that Pajaje is Scar Tiger, the embedded foothold Henwell planted.
Henwell's mind races. His face stays calm, but he has already decided how to test Scar Tiger.
A moment later, Henwell looks at the scarred and dispirited Scar Tiger. "I remember now. This is Baron Hodith!"
"My apologies. When I returned from the Western Regions back then, he was still a baron, and I even attended a banquet at his castle."
"Speaking of which, is he not a member of the Dienbos family? How did he end up betraying the family?"
"Also, from the look of him now, your persuasion seems rather rough."
The Grand Princess gives a soft laugh. "Hehe. It worked, did it not?"
Henwell tilts his head and looks at the vacant-eyed Scar Tiger. "Viscount Hodith, have they coerced you?"
"If they have, blink at me."
"I am a righteous, orthodox knight."
"I would never stand by and watch a noble be treated this way, even if he is a noble from a neighboring country."
After Henwell repeats himself, Scar Tiger slowly raises his head.
Once he sees the situation clearly, especially Henwell standing before him, light immediately returns to his eyes.
Still wearing that warm smile, Henwell crouches down and says softly to Scar Tiger, "My lord viscount, the coming plan is important."
"I must confirm that you are doing this willingly, not under coercion."
"If this matter is exposed and you give us up, that will be troublesome."
"And I fear trouble more than anything. I also dislike forcing others to do what they do not wish to do."
"If you are unwilling to carry out this mission, say so now."
"I can make the decision and let you leave at once."
"But if you accept the mission, you must keep your mouth shut."
"Do not do what you did here and confess everything the moment someone applies torture."
"If that happens, I will be very angry, and I will definitely bring you back."
"Believe me, no matter whose protection you seek, they will not stop me from coming personally to seize you."
"And when that time comes, I promise that everything you have experienced now will feel like a maid's gentle massage by comparison."
Although Henwell's tone is gentle and his smile warm, the coldness in his eyes makes Scar Tiger tremble all over.
Forget answering. He cannot even open his mouth. He only cries in terror.
After a long while, seeing Scar Tiger say nothing, Henwell smiles and pats his shoulder. "Work hard. We will not treat you poorly."
The situation is basically confirmed, and his message has reached its target.
Then Henwell shrugs at the people from Ika. "I think he is acceptable. He accepts the mission willingly."
"Look. Once he learned he would shoulder such an honorable task, he was moved to tears."
Prince Kullen says irritably, "If you keep frightening him, he is going to wet himself."
Henwell returns to his seat. "This concerns me as well, so I need to confirm whether this man is reliable."
Prince Kullen frowns. "Rest assured. We already hold fatal leverage over him. He has absolutely no chance to betray us again."
Henwell shrugs. "All right. From your tone, it seems you do not intend to tell me what that leverage is."
The Grand Princess nods without hesitation. "Of course. This is our planted asset, not yours. You only need to support him."
Henwell asks, "Then how far do you plan to take him?"
Prince Kullen says, "He previously informed on us to Dilio, the eldest prince, and nearly caused our plan to fail."
"Fortunately, our people discovered it early and removed that hidden danger."
"After the war objectives changed, we also captured him."
"At the time, Dilio had already promised him benefits and intended to make him a count in Lumir."
"We realized this man might still be useful, so we did not kill him."
"Back then, we judged that Dilio had a strong chance of ruling Lumir in the future."
"So we planned to plant him inside Lumir, pretending he had never been caught and was still passing intelligence to Dilio."
"But plans did not keep up with events. Dilio has now lost the throne."
"That sharply reduced this man's value."
"But now we need Dilio to go to western Lumir and stand against Obilian."
"We also need events to develop in our favor."
"So this man is useful again."
"Our plan is that after Dilio is released, this planted asset will go directly to join him."
"When Dilio needs people most, he will already be pinned at Dilio's side."
"Since we cannot appear openly, all forms of support for this planted asset will require your assistance."
Henwell frowns. "I have no problem with that, as long as you have the plan worked out."
Prince Kullen continues, "We can reveal a little about this planted asset to put your mind at ease."
"According to our investigation, this man is not actually Viscount Hodith, or rather, he is not Pajaje."
"As for Pajaje himself, he already died in the War of the Six Kings."
"Over these years, this man colluded with Viscount Hodith's wife. With her help, he made Pajaje's identity real."
"The man before you is actually named Walker. He was once the real Viscount Pajaje's retainer and took over that identity by imposture."
"In fact, he has done very well over the years. He eliminated everyone who might have known the truth."
"He also used extraordinary potions to disguise his build and appearance, so no one suspected him at all."
"If he had not broken under torture, we would never have known he was an impostor."
Henwell murmurs, "Is that so? If that is the case, he is a talent."
"He managed to impersonate a noble for so long under everyone's eyes without exposing the slightest flaw."
"That shows he has nerve, adapts quickly, and is especially good at acting and deception."
"He really is born spy material."
"All right."
"I have no more questions. How much are you preparing to invest in supporting him? I need to make plans in advance."
Prince Kullen raises one finger. Henwell nods lightly. "Ten million gold coins? That is generous."
"That makes things much easier. I believe it will not take long for Viscount Hodith to become Dilio's right-hand man."
Prince Kullen's eyes widen. "Damn it. I mean one hundred thousand gold coins!"
"Do you know how much ten million gold coins is?"
Henwell widens his eyes too. "Bullshit. What can one hundred thousand gold coins do?"
"Buy him dinner? Or organize a few noble-style serf soldiers?"
Immediately after, Henwell continues mocking him. "One hundred thousand gold coins? For a small business like that, did you need to summon me here for a secret discussion?"
"If I had known you were this stingy, I would not have acted so tough just now. I would have helped you for free."
"Really?"
Henwell rolls his eyes. "Of course not."
"One hundred thousand gold coins is not enough."
"If that is really all, I can directly mobilize that sum from western Lumir right now."
"Then this matter has nothing to do with me, and you should not come looking for me again. This is simply wasting my time."
"If you have something like this in the future, contact the people under me directly."
"For business at this level, my subordinates handle it. I have given them decision-making authority at this tier."
