Chapter 518 - 72: The Boss and the Secretary
Chapter 518 - 72: The Boss and the Secretary
The man who was tailing her was eventually questioned by the security guard, and it turned out he was visiting a patient in the hospital. As for the tailing, he didn’t admit to it and only said he took a wrong turn. After verifying, it was indeed the case that he was visiting a patient, so there wasn’t much that could be done about it. After all, nothing significant happened, so what could be asked of him? Even if the police were called, they would need evidence, and without it, they would at most issue a verbal warning.
This is reality. Qu Fulan didn’t expect much could be done to him. Just making a scene was enough to deter any ill intentions he might have had. Besides, she had protection, so there was no need to worry too much.
The man’s name was Yao Heng, a family member of a patient on the 24th floor.
Qu Fulan didn’t know any more information beyond that.
Things did turn out as Qu Fulan expected. Yao Heng had been questioned by the nurse and security guard and didn’t dare take further actions. He felt it was a pity, as he hadn’t managed to learn much.
But Yao Heng hadn’t anticipated that some things he didn’t seek would come to him unbidden.
Still in the hospital, he was walking with his aunt and uncle when he bumped into that beautiful woman again. Before he could get excited, his uncle spoke up.
"Lanlan?"
The middle-aged man stopped Qu Fulan, "What are you doing in the hospital?"
Qu Fulan looked up and didn’t know what to say.
This world is indeed small. Estranged family members collided once again.
However, Qu Fulan’s attention wasn’t on the middle-aged man but on the shifty-looking man next to him. Wasn’t he the one following her, Yao Heng?
So, were they on the same side?
As for the woman next to the middle-aged man, Qu Fulan had seen her before but met her years ago, so she only faintly remembered. However, she wasn’t interested in these people; she offered a curt nod and tried to leave.
The middle-aged man stopped her again, "Why are you in the hospital, are you sick?"
Qu Fulan had no interest in fostering a relationship with him, "Sir, you’re blocking my way."
The middle-aged man frowned, "Why won’t you even call me dad? Is this how your mother taught you to behave?"
Qu Fulan let out a laugh in anger, "How my mother taught me is not important. What matters is that under her guidance, I wouldn’t betray my family. Now I’m busy, so if you’ll excuse me."
With that, she turned to leave, and when the middle-aged man tried to stop her again, Qu Fulan’s bodyguard intervened.
Qu Fulan left smoothly and quickly entered the elevator.
Downstairs, Yao Heng was delighted to learn Qu Fulan’s identity from what just happened.
So she wasn’t the daughter of a wealthy family, yet she could go to the 26th floor, validating his second suspicion: was she kept by a wealthy person? Otherwise, where did the bodyguard come from?
If she wasn’t from a wealthy family, the situation should be easier to handle. As for being his uncle’s daughter, what did it matter? There were no blood ties between them anyway.
"Was that... Qu Fulan?" Ms. Yao fully came to her senses after the others had left.
She had seen Qu Fulan before, but she was very young back then, which is why she found her somewhat familiar.
The middle-aged man had mixed feelings. Even a tiger doesn’t eat its cubs, and even a cheating man has some sentiment for his children. He often returned to see her, although she refused to meet him, so he watched her from afar as she grew up, and later he just sent money, though she never used it.
"Yes." Mr. Qu wasn’t in high spirits, naturally not being acknowledged by his daughter affected him.
But Ms. Yao was in high spirits. Her daughter was in her current condition, and she was troubled over finding a kidney donor. She had searched all her relatives but found no match. Now her husband’s other daughter appeared, and since both were daughters, perhaps one would be a match.
Ms. Yao shared her thoughts with her husband, and Mr. Qu’s first reaction was that it wasn’t possible.
"Why can’t it be? How would you know without trying? This might be the only hope. If it works, then Nannan can be saved." Ms. Yao spoke earnestly, determined to do anything for her daughter.
But Mr. Qu shook his head, "She has no obligation to help us."
Ms. Yao argued passionately, "Is this about obligation? It’s about saving a life! Even if she’s not Nannan’s biological sister, knowing she could save Nannan, a normal person would agree."
No matter what Ms. Yao said, Mr. Qu remained firm in his position.
No matter how irresponsible a man might be, he would have a scrap of conscience in some respects. After all, he abandoned Qu Fulan when she was young. How could he now ask her to donate a kidney to save his other daughter? That would be too much.
Seeing her husband’s persistent disapproval, Ms. Yao was extremely frustrated but didn’t dare to say more, just clenched her fingers tightly.
What if he disagreed? She had other ways.
Qu Fulan continued her daily routine, shuttling between the hospital, home, and another hospital where she went to see her mom, forming a triangular relationship of sorts.
But this day, just after leaving her mom’s ward, someone visited.
It was nobody else but Ms. Yao.
Ms. Yao believed that as mothers, they could understand each other’s feelings. No mother could bear to watch their child die, especially when another option existed.
Unfortunately, Ms. Yao miscalculated. Mrs. Qu didn’t respond to her visit or the things she said. However, just as a nurse was about to enter, she clutched her heart and collapsed, pointing with a trembling finger, uttering just one word, "You," and nothing more.
To the nurse, it looked like the patient had been agitated and fainted, and someone was causing trouble in the hospital. Wasn’t that outrageous?
Ms. Yao finally left Mrs. Qu’s ward in disgrace. She thought she could come back next time, but she didn’t know that after she left, Mrs. Qu "awoke" and talked about her experiences, being betrayed by her husband, having their daughter barely six years old, while the other daughter was already three, and now having the gall to ask her daughter to donate a kidney etc....
Everyone knew it was the mistress who had visited.
"Is it that brazen for a mistress to come to this day and age? Even daring to ask the legitimate daughter’s help to save her daughter? Have they no shame?"
"If they had any shame, they wouldn’t be a mistress. Let me see that woman, and I’ll spit on her every time!"
After selling her sob story, Mrs. Qu called her daughter. She hadn’t said anything before because she didn’t want to worry her. But now, it just couldn’t be avoided.
But her daughter had already met her father.
Mrs. Qu’s hand tightened around the phone, "Did he also persuade you to donate a kidney?"
Qu Fulan was puzzled, "What kidney donation?"
Mrs. Qu breathed a sigh of relief, though it was short-lived. Just because he hadn’t asked yet didn’t mean he wouldn’t, possibly bringing it up any day now.
Then Mrs. Qu explained everything to her daughter, telling her to refuse no matter what.
"No one owes them anything. Their lives have nothing to do with us." She wasn’t generous enough to let her daughter save the mistress’s child.
Only then did Qu Fulan understand the situation. Of course, she reassured her mother she wouldn’t agree.
Agree?
Impossible.
