Chapter 16
Chapter 16
Shen Ge led the woman to the meeting room, poured her a glass of water, and sat down across from her.
The woman took out an ID card and slid it across the table toward him. *“Hello, I’m Deng Yuqi, head of Rong City’s Special Operations Division, officer ID *****
Curious, Shen Ge picked up the ID for a closer look. The woman’s photo showed her in a police uniform, looking impressively sharp, but what really caught his attention were the details on the card.
Special Incident Management & Security Countermeasures Division
**Officer ID: *****7
Rong City Branch Head: Deng Yuqi
Deng Yuqi explained,
Shen Ge asked with a strange expression.
Deng Yuqi chuckled.
Truthfully, Shen Ge’s mind was already racing the moment he saw Deng Yuqi’s ID.
Even though the system logs had hinted that supernatural phenomena had long existed and that there were organizations dealing with them, he hadn’t expected them to track him down so quickly.
Shen Ge tried to recall whether anyone besides Cheng Shengnan and Xiao He had witnessed him dealing with the supernatural yesterday. What exactly was the Special Operations Division’s purpose in coming here?
He wasn’t keen on drawing attention from such an organization. Even setting aside the system, his past was full of matters that wouldn’t hold up under scrutiny—unless he wanted to spend the rest of his life enjoying government-provided meals.
Shen Ge pondered how to shake off this woman—preferably in a way that made her never want to see or remember him again.
Deng Yuqi spoke up.
Shen Ge cut straight to the point.
Shen Ge summarized the events succinctly.
Deng Yuqi asked.
As she spoke, she unlocked her phone and tapped a few times, pulling up a video—footage of Shen Ge handling the supernatural entity on the rooftop.
The clip showed him pushing a cart to the water tank, burning the hair, then fishing it out to incinerate it completely. The angle suggested it was filmed from a drone behind him. When he used a stick to poke at the fire and the system absorbed the rat corpse, his body conveniently blocked the moment the body vanished.
Shen Ge frowned at the screen.
Deng Yuqi explained, *“Yesterday at 6 p.m., a video blogger shared this clip on a short-video platform. It quickly gained traction and trended. But once we noticed, we took immediate action and tracked down the blogger. He claimed he was testing a drone when he accidentally captured this.”*
Shen Ge said gravely.
Deng Yuqi nodded in agreement.
Seeing Deng Yuqi’s slightly disturbed expression, Shen Ge knew he was on the right track.
Deng Yuqi remarked,
Shen Ge answered honestly.
Deng Yuqi raised an eyebrow.
Mr. Vampire Shen Ge rummaged in his pocket and pulled out a pack of chocolate.
Deng Yuqi felt her brain short-circuiting.
This wasn’t her first time dealing with people who’d encountered the supernatural. Most reacted with curiosity, shock, or fear—some even tried to cover it up or flee. But someone like Shen Ge, who it and seemed to be cracking jokes? Unprecedented.
Deng Yuqi asked curiously.
Shen Ge straightened up.
Deng Yuqi finally realized Shen Ge was deliberately derailing the conversation.
She didn’t know his motives, but if this kept up, she’d be here all day without learning anything useful.
Since she pressed, Shen Ge recounted the events of yesterday—omitting the system and his traits—and explained his thought process in handling the supernatural entity.
Deng Yuqi praised.
Shen Ge waved a hand modestly.
Deng Yuqi felt her brain cells withering.
Shen Ge leaned in earnestly.
Shen Ge’s eyes lit up.
Deng Yuqi’s expression froze.
Shen Ge pressed.
Shen Ge offered eagerly.
As Deng Yuqi stepped out, she spotted a woman who corporate executive standing outside the manager’s office.
Cheng Shengnan had noticed Deng Yuqi the moment she entered the office area but assumed she was a client or acquaintance of Shen Ge’s after seeing him lead her to the meeting room.
Now, watching Shen Ge guide the woman toward her, she was puzzled.
Though confused, Cheng Shengnan invited her into the office.
As the door closed behind them, Shen Ge’s brow furrowed. He’d hoped to fish for information about the Special Operations Division by playing the fool, but Deng Yuqi had been tight-lipped.
She hadn’t even acknowledged the existence of or , steering the conversation solely toward yesterday’s events.
Now, Shen Ge couldn’t help but wonder—was that security guard actually taken away by this very department?
